Express coach George Ssimwogerere expressed worry about the state of the pitch at Mwererwe as his side prepares for Sunday’s Uganda Cup semi-final against Bright Stars.
The meeting, the first of three clashes in a space of eight days between the two teams is the first leg of the Cup competition.
"I am blaming the federation for allowing such a pitch to be used in a prestigious competition," Ssimwogerere said in the pre-match press conference.
The Red Eagles are seeking a record 11
th Uganda Cup title having last won the competition in 2007. They have already been to Mwererwe this season playing out a 1-all draw in the league first round.
A similar result was witnessed in three of the five previous meetings in which Express also claimed a 2-0 win in 2017. They come into the game on the back of a 2-1 over Kirinya-Jinja in what was their first win in three games to stay 11
th on the 16 team log.
Brian Umony, who scored the lone goal in the previous round over Bul was again on the score sheet heading home a Disan Galilwango cross. Arthur Kiggundu then added the second shortly after Jerome Kirya had equalized to hand Ssimwogerere another home victory.
Striker Tony Odur is expected to return to the team that has been in residential training for a week although Ssimwogerere revealed Isaac Mutanga and Erick Kambale are unlikely to make it for today’s fixture.
Bright Stars, who are in their first ever Uganda Cup semifinal, are meanwhile ninth in the league and recorded a 2-1 away victory over Bul in their previous game.
The two teams meet again in the league on Wednesday before the return leg the following week. The other set of the semifinals is between Big League sides Kyetume and Proline will have their first leg played on Monday at Nakisunga.
