Express hope to reap from another lengthy break

It is said every cloud has a silver lining. And while many clubs that gained momentum in recent Uganda Premier League games could well be cursing the latest league break, there could be a positive spin to the situation.

That interruption is expected to allow coaches time to work with their players for up two weeks before the next round of games.

With no players summoned to the Cranes team preparing for the Chan qualifier return leg against Burundi this week, Express will have all players available to coach George Ssimwogerere.

The Red Eagles seemed to previously benefit from such a break gaining six points from four games after collecting a meagre four from the opening five games of the season.

These included consecutive wins for the first time this season, a 5-3 win over Police before holding out for a 1-0 away win over Kyetume.

Express also looked the better side against Vipers for a substantial period and created goal scoring chances through Frank Kalanda, Frank Ssenyondo, Muhammad Yiga and Daniel Shabena before succumbing to a 3-0 loss.

Captain Disan Galilwango, Frank Kalanda and Ssenyondo have stood out most in that four game sequence with the last two each scoring twice.

Ssenyondo and Kalanda have now scored three goals each with one assist to accompany their performances.
Galiliwango has also made a pivotal contribution contributing five assists and scored two goals in the nine games thus far.

“They will continue to perform the way they have been performing because they are focused and understand what they are playing now,” Ssimwogerere said of his attacking trio.

The 17-day break will meanwhile also come in handy for the injured players including Ssenyondo who was withdrawn against Vipers.

Mathias Muwanga (back), Emmanuel Baffoe (thigh) and Cyrus Kibande all missed the game against Vipers.

Express who are currently 11th with 10 points from nine games return to action on October 29 with a home fixture against Busoga United.
