Express eye Uganda Cup final slot

Express coach George Ssimwogerere and his Bright Stars counterpart Fred Kajoba are not shy about their safety first approach to football games.

But with the two teams’ Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-final needing an outright winner.

The impression from both team camps is that they will throw caution to the wind ahead of their return leg at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium this afternoon.

The game will be the third in a space of a fortnight between the two teams who play Proline in the final.

Express have a slight advantage having scored an away goal in 1-all draw from the first leg and were also 3-1 winners from their second round league meeting last week.

“They know the situation at wankulukuku so they have to come when they are determined I don’t want to humiliate them. I will give them a fair win and they go. I have to attack them from the word go. I need a win not a draw,” stated Ssimwogerere in the pre-match press conference.

Bright Stars counterpart Paul Kiwanuka whose side completed the league with a 6-1 thrashing of Paidha was however similarly bullish in his response.

“The return leg is going to be tougher than the first leg and that should make it more attractive for the fans. We are not overturning the 3-1 league result but the 1-1 first leg draw. We finished ahead of Express. We know we are better than them,” he responded.

Express also come into the game better placed in terms of history with their record 10 titles, the joint highest alongside KCCA in the competition.

The last of those titles however came in 2007 while they also reached the semifinal stage before falling to KCCA in 2017.

Ssimwogerere meanwhile has a couple of injury worries ahead of the game including Eric Kambale who was injured in the game against KCCA at Lugogo but returned to normal training on Monday

Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga, is one of the players who did not travel with the team to Arua on Saturday but suffered an injury in light training with the squad which remained in Kampala.

He will be monitored to see his readiness for Thursday while Hamis Batega, suffered a hamstring injury and may miss out on Thursday.

Arthur Kiggundu, the defender was on the receiving end of a tackle against Bright Stars at Mwererwe in the first leg. He was given 10 days to be out which ended on Sunday.
