Express down Bright Stars for first victory

Express 2-1 Bright Stars

Express FC might have collected maximum points from Arua last season but a draw is never a bad result in West Nile.

And, considering captain Enock Walusimbi was sent off in the team's first test of the season, the point was vital.

The Red Eagles got their first win of the season off Bright Stars at the Betway Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.

The victory is what head coach Wasswa Bbosa had hoped for on home soil.

"I am obviously happy with our first home win," Bbosa said after the final whistle on Saturday.

Forwards Frank Kalanda and Eric Kambale got the goals for the Red Eagles as they held on for a hard fought win against a stubborn Bright Stars side.

"The boys put in a great shift and I think it's a well-earned win," Bbosa added.

Bbosa's charges got off to a good start at Wankulukuku with two quick fire goals in the first half.

Kalanda, who scored a penalty in Arua, benefited from a poor clearence to put the hosts ahead after just three minutes.

Four minutes later, Kalanda's strike partner Kambale got his goal off a Charles Musiige cross.

Augustine Kacancu would get one back for Bright Stars but it only turned out to be a mere consolation.

Express will be concerned about injuries to Daniel Shabena and Charles Musiige after the two were forced to come off.

Next on the menu for Express is another trip out of Kampala to face Mbarara City at Kakyeka on December 16th.

From Mbarara, the Red Eagles host bitter rivals S.C Villa on December 19th.
