Express defensive lynchpin Jjuuko returns to Cranes fold

Express FC will be represented when the senior Cranes national team begins preparations ahead of the final two 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification games against Malawi and Burkina Faso later this month.

This is after the experienced defender Murushid Jjuuko was named among the 31 players summoned by coaches Abdallah Mubiru and Livingstone Mbabazi on Friday morning.

Jjuuko has been in fine form for the Betway sponsored Red Eagles since signing for the club at the start of the season.

He is part of a strong defensive unit that has seen the club concede just six goals, the least number of all 16 teams in the league after 11 games.

They were also second on the log behind Vipers going into matchday 12 of the season.

He returns to the Cranes fold having opted to skip the Chan tournament at the start of the year when he was summoned by previous Cranes coach Johnathan McKinstry.

There are also returns to the Cranes fold for former Express players Tadeo Lwanga and Allan Kyambadde who currently ply their trade in Tanzania and Egypt respectively.

Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru who features for Wycombe Wanders in the English Championship is also part of the team that will be captained by Denis Onyango.

The Cranes are expected to enter residential camp on 18th March at the Cranes Paradise Hotel and comprise four goalkeepers, ten defenders, eleven midfielders, and six forwards.

Uganda is second in-group B on seven points, one behind leaders Burkina Faso who they host on 24th March in Kampala before ending the campaign away against Malawi.

Malawi with four points and South Sudan with three make up the four teams in Group B. The 12 group winners and runners-up in each group qualify for the final tournament.
