Express defeat URA for first away win

A fixture that reads SC Villa, Vipers, URA and KCCA FC in succession is a difficult one for any team in Ugandan football to manoeuvre.

And yet Express have downed Villa and URA and also drawn with champions Vipers.

The latest victory came Sunday evening at Arena of Visions stadium in Ndejje with George Senkaaba's lone strike handing the Red Eagles maximum points.

Senkaaba, who replaced Frank Kalanda in the draw with Vipers, started his first game of the season and came up with another big goal.

The former SC Villa striker controlled a bouncing ball from goal keeper Mathias Muwanga before a volley on the turn to give Wasswa Bbosa's charges the lead.

The goal set the pace for Express and they were the better side in the first stanza.

Captain Enock Walusimbi almost doubled the lead for the visitors towards the end of the first half but his effort was kept out by the woodwork.

The Betway sponsored outfit managed the game in the second half to leave with the three points and enhance their chances of fighting for silverware this season.

The Red Eagles are now one of the three teams yet to test defeat in the league this campaign.

Vipers and Wakiso Giants are the other two sides.

The three points push Express to 4th on the 16-team log with 12 points, just two behind table leaders Vipers.

There won't be time for celebrating the win for the Mukwano Gwa Bangi though with another huge encounter looming.

Express host KCCA FC at Wankulukuku on Wednesday  and will be looking to come out all the big four matches of the first round with something.
