Express Football Club will host its second round matches of the 2019-2020 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season at the Kavumba Recreational Centre in Wakiso district.
“We shall host our games of the UPL second round at Kavumba Recreation Stadium,” read a club statement.
The six-time league winners were forced to change base from their traditional home ground at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku after it struggled to meet UPL standards.
Due to Wankulukuku’s poor drainage, heavy rains and pitch maintenance, Fufa at some point in the first round, stopped Express and other venue tenants Bright Stars from hosting matches there.

“This serves to inform you that the state in which Wankulukuku is doesn’t meet the required minimum stadium standards to host the Uganda Premier League matches….,” stated part of a letter by Fufa CEO Edgar Watson to Express on October 30, 2019.
After consultations, Express FC board will use Kavumba where they will host eight of their 15 second round matches, the first being Proline’s visit on January 18.
Betway-sponsored Express, 11th with 18 points from 15 matches halfway stage, will also host key games like URA on February 25 and log leaders Vipers on May 13.
Meanwhile, coach George Ssimwogerere will be delighted ahead of the second round kick-off by the return of goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga.
The custodian returned to full training after a back surgery which made him miss the entire first round. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be ready for selection against Busoga United on January 8.
