Express FC announced their 18th signing ahead of the 2020/2021 StarTimes Uganda Premier League with Ivan Mayanja joining the six-time league champions on a three-year contract.
Unlike the majority of the previous 17 signings, Mayanja's acquisition gave the impression of a club signing a future prospect but one with the natural ability to make an instant impression in the topflight league.
Mayanja joins from third division regional league side CATDA with whom he has impressed after three seasons playing Masaza Cup football with Busiro.
“I am happy to have signed for express fc, it’s a club I have always wanted to join and now that’s it done, the work starts immediately. I am ready to help the team achieve the desired goal which is winning silverware” Mayanja stated.
Mayanja who is two-footed, can play in a number of forward positions but thrives most playing behind a main striker or in a central attacking midfield role, reason why several topflight league clubs have been chasing his signature.
Traditional rivals SC Villa and Wakiso Giants were some of the topflight clubs who showed interest in his services before being scooped by the Red Eagles.
Last week he provided a reminder of his abilities scoring a sublime brace against Edgars to guide CATDA to the Playoff final which they ultimately lost to Luweero for a place in the Big League.
The goals included a chested control and shot on the volley to clinch a 2-0 victory while the first goal was a delightful finish lifted over the goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Last season he also showed no nerves against the big boys, running the KCCA defence rugged before they laboured to a 2-0 win in the Uganda Cup.
He joins striker George Senkaaba who was also in Njeru last week and was unveiled after guiding Kitara to the Uganda Premier League.
