Enabu positive as Silverbacks depart for final Afro Basket push

The national basketball team Silverbacks departed for Monastir Tunisia on Thursday ahead of the final Afrobasket qualifier.

Captain Jimmy Enabu expressed confidence about the team getting the job done after his team finished second in Group E with a 2-1 record.

The Silverbacks now need just one more win when they again play Egypt, Morocco, and Cape Verde to guarantee qualification to a third straight Afrobasket appearance.

“Basing on how we played in the first round, the team is generally in a better state than it was before. And I strongly believe we can only become better,” opined whose team is also sure to benefit from another training camp ahead of the qualifier.”

“Going into the first round we did not have enough time to gel with the players especially those who were abroad.

So at the beginning of the training camp, things didn’t look like they were coming around until the final days. So now we have a clearer picture of how everyone plays and what we want to accomplish,” he added.

Three new faces were added to the roster from the previous qualifier with fan favourites Fayed Bbaale, and Caesar Kizito set to make their debuts alongside US-based big man Arthur Kaluma.

“We want to think that if we get better on defense we can be better. This time we want to play a high tempo game.”

“The inclusion of Bbaale who is very quick and is a good defender down the floor is going to help us. Caesar is a big guard who can guard multiple positions and shoots the ball well.”

“He's also a willing and tough defender,” coach Mandy Juruni said of the two local-based players added to the roster.

Eight players traveled to Tunisia from where they will be joined by the foreign-based legion of Ishmail Wainwright, Eric Rwahwire, Robinson Opong, Deng Geu, Arthur Kaluma.

The Silverbacks will begin the final qualifier with a game against Egypt on February 18 before playing morocco two days later and Cape Verde on February 21.

Silverbacks final squad: Jimmy Enabu, Tony Drileba, Benjamin Komakech, Fayed Bbaale, James Okello, Joseph Ikong, Titus Lual, Ceaser Kizito, Ishmail Wainwright, Eric Rwahwire, Robinson Opong, Deng Geu, Arthur Kaluma
