Borussia Dortmund will be looking to bounce back from an opening defeat in Group F when they welcome Zenit St. Petersburg to Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday 28 October, kick-off at 23:00. The match is one of 16 on 27-28 October in Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Dortmund got their Champions League campaign off to a poor start with a 3-1 loss away to Lazio. Former BVB player Ciro Immobile netted the opener and provided the assist for Le Aquile’s third scored by Jean Akpro, while Marwin Hitz scored an own goal in between. The German side’s consolation was scored by Erling Haaland.

"We were asleep for the opening exchanges and most of the first half. I can’t explain that. In the second half we carved out two or three good chances, but weren’t ambitious or compact enough. That’s not how we wanted our first Champions League game to go,” said Dortmund captain Marco Reus.

Zenit also suffered a defeat in their opener, going down 2-1 at the St. Petersburg Stadium against Belgian side Club Brugge. The Russian side fought back from Emmanuel Dennis’ earlier opener via an own goal from Ethan Horvath, but an injury-time strike from Charles De Ketelaere condemned them to defeat.

"This is the Champions League. Every error in defence can be costly. You have to keep concentration until the very end. We need to be more compact in defence. Dortmund are a great team with quality attackers but if you work as a team you always have a chance,” said Zenit defender Dejan Lovren.

The other Group F match on Wednesday 28 October sees Belgium’s Club Brugge host Italian heavyweights Lazio at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
