Cubs Roar Into CECAFA Semi-Finals

That National Under-17 team coach Peter Onen expressed disappointment despite defeating Sudan at the ongoing CECAFA Under-17 Youth Championship in Burundi shows the ease with which they dispatched their opponents.

The Cubs claimed a 3-0 win to underline their intentions of retaining the title but Onen expected a lot more at least going by his post-match reaction.

“This is a team (Sudan) we should have beaten at least ten goals,” He said in reacting to media questions immediately after the match played on Tuesday evening.

The result helped the Cubs become the first team in Group B to qualify to the next stage in the competition that has been marred by age cheating.

That however will matter little to the Ugandan side who got their goals through a first half brace from Andrew Kawooya and Moses Bakkabulindi.

Moses Bakkabulindi

Bakkabulindi who turns out for Vipers Junior Team in the  Fufa Junior League has now scored in successive matches having also scored in the 1-1 opening draw with Tanzania on Sunday.

Also on the team is the pair of Anthony Kenty and Iddi Abdulwahid from Betway Sponsored Onduparaka Junior Team.

This is after Zanzibar, the fourth team in the group was expelled after presenting 12 over-age players, having been before 2002 and contrary to tournament rules.

Ethiopia were meanwhile stripped off three points garnered from a 3-1 victory over Somalia and fined $5000 after being found guilty of fielding  three over age players.

The tournament funded by FIFA, is returning after a nine year break.
