Cricket World Cup 2019: Australia go in search of sixth CWC title

2019 ICC Cricket World Cup

England and Wales

30 May – 14 July

Australia will go in search of a record-extending sixth title when the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is held in England and Wales from 30 May to 14 July.

Australia are the reigning World Cup champions, having defeated New Zealand in the 2015 final in Melbourne, and they will fancy their chances of extending their domination of the tournament – the Aussies have won four of the last five editions of the CWC.

Australian opening batsman David Warner.

They are also seeking redemption a sense, as their 2019 squad includes two players – David Warner and former captain Steve Smith – who were banned for a ball tampering scandal in a Test match against South Africa just over a year ago.

That pair will be central to their batting power, as will captain Aaron Finch and the unpredictable Glenn Maxwell, who can be a world beater when he puts all the elements of his game together in an innings.

Australia coach Justin Langer.

Yet it is Australia’s seam bowlers – in particular Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc – who will be key to their hopes of winning in English conditions.

Coach Justin Langer’s side open their CWC campaign with a clash against Afghanistan in Bristol on 1 June.
