Clash of egos as Express host Onduparaka

Goals, a series of coaching sacks and resignations have shaped up the destiny in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League so far.

And after strong waves amid never-ceasing storms, KCCA and Vipers are leading the pace with 18 points apiece after five wins and three stalemates each in eight matches.

That bodes firmly with nearly one but all a pundit’s predictions for the season. But Asaph Mwebaze’s resignation from Onduparaka’s coaching role was not expected.

It happens to have stirred up one of the big conversations about how hot a seat at the Catterpillars it can be.

That will further remain in the limelight most, when Onduparaka visits Express in Match Day 9 action on Saturday at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

Why? Mwebaze had not done badly with the Arua-based considering he had garnered five clean sheets in the first seven matches including beating SC Villa at Namboole.

Now the former Maroons coach cited intrigue at the club among other elements as reason for parting ways, something that Livingstone Mbabazi hinted about before leaving midway the season last term.

The bitter pill in this though is that Onduparaka lost a lover in sponsor Betway that Express courted back to the game and now at the front of their jersey, above the pavilion and on the stadium walls.

Those images will baffle Onduparaka players psychologically and will need greater mental forte to beat the Red Eagles like they have done over their past two visits here.

Onduparaka beat Ndejje University 3-0 a day after Mwebaze left last week but Express haven’t kicked a ball competitively since picking a point at Bright Stars in a close shave at Mwererwe on November 13.

“The break did us great with most players recovering from knocks and suspensions,” Express coach Kefa Kisala told this website.

Tony Odur will be reinstated in the starting XI for Express having missed the Stars’ game because of accumulated yellow cards. Eight of Express’ 13 points have come in the last four games but drawn their last two encounters.

For Onduparaka, they will be riding high in confidence on a fresh Gadhaffi Gadinho who has since started playing after Mwebaze’s departure.
