The Cityzens beat Crystal Palace 4-0 on Sunday for a fifth straight win in the league to move up to second on the standings, two points behind crosstown rivals Manchester United but with a game in hand.

“We fought a lot to be up there like many clubs and we will have to fight a lot to stay there,” said City manager Pep Guardiola, who celebrates his 50th birthday this week, in the aftermath.

“It is a weird season. Everyone can beat everyone and it is difficult every game. I am happy for the players. It was a good performance, another win and three points.”

Villa haven't been in Premier League action since a 2-1 loss to the Red Devils on New Year's day following a Covid-19 outbreak at the club and will be in action twice this week, as they play catch-up.

“When we come back, we’ve got 23 big games to play," said Villa manager Dean Smith. "They’ll be coming thick and fast. It’s given me a period of reflection. I’ve been able to talk to individual players, and plan for the rest of the season."

City took six points off Villa last season. The Manchester club beat their opponents 3-0 at Etihad Stadium before a 6-1 victory in Birmingham in a match in which Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick and Riyad Mahrez a brace.
