2019-20 FA Cup

Semifinals
18-19 July 2020

Chelsea’s ambition of winning the FA Cup sees them come up against Manchester United in the second semifinal this weekend, set for Wembley Stadium on Sunday 19 July 2020.

Manager Frank Lampard would love to claim silverware in his first season as Chelsea manager, and has thus far seen his side overcome Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Liverpool and Leicester City en-route to the final four.

The Blues have endured some up and down form in the Premier League but remain capable of a top-four finish – though their opponents for this game, Man United, are one of their main rivals in this regard.

Chelsea solidified their hold on third place with a 1-0 home win over already-relegated Norwich City on Tuesday night, with a goal late in the first half from Olivier Giroud. It was an unconvincing showing from the Blues, with manager Frank Lampard admitting they must improve.

"We take our three points, we focus on ourselves, we can sit down and watch the other teams this week and focus on our FA Cup semifinal at the weekend, but there's obviously still work to do,” said Lampard.

"There's a nervy feeling for understandable reasons, so I'm pleased. We went a bit slow for about 10 or 15 minutes in the second half. Then we began moving the ball again and there was a bit of personality in our game today, but we can improve."

In head-to-head stats, Man United and Chelsea have met in 186 matches across all competitions. The Red Devils have claimed 81 wins compared to 54 for the Blues, while 51 games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash in February which United won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire. The last FA Cup clash between the teams saw the Red Devils triumph 2-0 in London in a Fifth Round clash in February 2019, with strikes from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba.
