2019 Formula 1 season, Round 3
Chinese Grand Prix
Shanghai International Circuit
Sunday 14 April
Charles Leclerc will hope for better luck when the 2
019 Formula 1 season holds Round 3, the Chinese Grand Prix, at the Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday 14 April.
The Ferrari driver put in a superb showing at the last round in Bahrain in March but a technical issue on his car slowed him in the dying stages and cost him a first victory in F1.
Instead he had to limp home for third (at least claiming his first podium in the process) which left him in third place on the drivers’ championship standings. His 26 points represents a respectable haul for a young driver in his first season with a big team.
However, such was Leclerc’s pace in Bahrain that he is being talked up as more of a threat to the Mercedes dominance of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton (who have each won a race thus far in 2019) than his four-time world champion teammate Sebastian Vettel.
Leclerc will want to keep ahead of the German at the Shanghai International Cicuit, though the venue was not a happy hunting ground for him last season, as he only managed to being his Sauber home in 19
th place.
But with Ferrari power this time around, Leclerc could well enjoy a much more fruitful Chinese Grand Prix in 2019.
