Lazio vs Juventus

Kick-off at 21:30 (9:30pm) CAT

There are two epic encounters to look forward to in Serie A this weekend that could have serious implications on the eventual destination of the Scudetto title following what seemed like months where Juventus were running a one-horse race.

AC MILAN VS NAPOLI – SAN SIRO STADIUM, MILAN

The sides are set to clash in the league on Saturday ahead of a repeat match when they face-off in quarter-final of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side have seemingly turned a corner in recent weeks, winning three of their last four matches in all competitions with the only blip being a 1-0 defeat to the Old Lady in the Italian Supercup played in Saudi Arabia last week. Their last encounter ended in a hard-fought 2-0 win away at Genoa with Spanish midfielder Suso on the scoresheet with his fifth goal of the campaign.

Napoli currently find themselves nine points adrift of the league leaders but could cut the gap to six with a win at the San Siro with Juventus only set to play late on Sunday. The Gil Azzurri registered their third successive win in all competitions when they beat 10-man Lazio last weekend with Arkadiusz Milik netting his 11th league goal of the season to make it 2-0 just minutes after Jose Callejon had given the hosts the lead.

AC Milan have not beaten Napoli in the last eight meetings between them since a 2-0 win at the San Siro back in 2014.

Napoli have won two of the last three away matches against the Rossoneri.

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a rather disappointing 0-0 draw – the first goalless stalemate between the duo in 12 matches since February 2012.

Carlo Ancelotti replaced Maurizio Sarri in the summer and helped his new Napoli side just edge AC Milan 3-2 when they met earlier in the season – the team where Ancelotti spent so many successful years at helm.

LAZIO VS JUVENTUS – STADIO OLYMPICO, ROME

Lazio saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end with that defeat at Napoli although will remain quietly confident ahead of the visit of Juventus. The Biancocelesti have lost just twice at the Stadio Olymoico all season, to Napoli and Inter Milan respectively who are two of the four sides between themselves and the Old Lady.

Juventus are aiming to maintain their advantage in Serie A with a 19th top-flight victory from a mere 21 matches played. They followed up their Supercup success with a comfortable 3-0 win over bottom-side Chievo on Monday – their third straight victory of 2019.

Since the Old Lady regained promotion to Italy’s top-flight in 2007 they have lost to Lazio on just one occasion in the league, winning 18 of those meetings whilst drawing the remaining four.

Lazio have won two of the last four matches against Juventus, following up a 3-2 Supercup victory last season with 2-1 away win in the league a couple of months later.

Ciro Immobile has scored four times in his last four appearances for Lazio against Juventus.
They were defeated in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign when Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic netted either side of the break to hand the hosts a 2-0 win in August.

Juventus are seeking a fifth straight league win at the Stadio Olympico.
