Bombers Expect Nothing But Medals

After conducting two months of intensive training, the national boxing team, the Bombers, is confident of collecting medals at the Africa Boxing Championships.
The team was flagged on Thursday at the Lugogo Sports Complex and head coach Muhammad Hassan Mulandi and his charges revealed that they are well prepared to represent the country. “The coaches have done their part in training and it’s our turn to perform and we are all confident we can do it,” captain Musa Shadir said before the team's trip.

There are 9 boxers carrying the Ugandan flag and they are being handled by four coaches at the event. The top four in each weight category will qualify for the Aiba World Boxing Championships to be held in Hamburg, Germany later this year.
Commonwealth Gold Medalist Godfrey Nyakana urged the team to try and qualify as many pugilists as possible for the world event. "We all have hope in you and we want at least six boxers to qualify the world championship.” Nyakana told the players after flag off. Nyakana, the federation patron, thanked the various partners that have helped the Bombers while in camp.
The National Council of Sports provided six tickets while Betway catered for the boxers’ meals and other logistics during the two months' training camp. Betway Uganda wishes the Bombers great success in Congo Brazzaville.
