Betway Stadium makes Fufa grade as Express face tricky opening game

The behind the scenes work undertaken by six-time league champions Express together with their biggest sponsors Betway Uganda over the last seven months when sport has been under lockdown, appear to finally be bearing fruit.

This after the Red Eagles were among a group of only seven of the 16 topflight Uganda Premier League clubs able to submit all the Fufa licensing requirements and have qualified for a full license ahead of the upcoming season.

Seven other clubs also submitted the minimum requirements although their grounds did not meet the expected standards, including SC Villa and Mbarara City FC.

The clubs have been advised to submit stadiums that was inspected and meets the minimum requirements.

Two other clubs, Kitara FC and Busoga United, have failed to meet the mandatory requirements and have been given until Monday, November 23, 2020 at 5pm to have fully complied.

Following that announcement, the Uganda Premier League secretariat consequently released a first round draft fixture list in which the Wasswa Bossa coached Express side will begin the 2020-2021 season with a tricky away tie against Arua-based Onduparaka.

The corresponding fixture last season proved a fruitful hunting ground for the Red Eagles who claimed a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Frank Ssenyondo strike.

The game which was the first in the keafuet set the team on a run of three wins, a draw and one loss in five games to climb four places up to ninth position before the league was brought to a halt as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
