Betway shops set to resume operations

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has distorted the 2020 plans and the normal cycle of life in most parts of the world.

Uganda is still grappling with the pandemic’s effects but the government through the Ministry of Health (MoH) recently lifted restrictions of the lockdown.

Part of the easing has been cast to the gaming industry where outlets are now set to open up again with guiding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), according to the Minister of Health Dr Ruth Aceng.

“Casinos and gaming outlets may resume operations after fulfilling conditions included in the SOPs beginning Saturday 14th November 2020,” read part of Dr Aceng’s statement.

“However, the hours of operations will be restricted to 6:30am to 7pm. The local governments in consultations with the National Gaming and Lotteries Board will inspect the gaming and casino places before they are allowed to operate.

Continued monitoring will also be conducted to ensure adherence to SOPs,” the statement added.

Leading online gaming company Betway is set to open its countrywide shops this weekend. “We will open shops to our customers in Soroti and Mbarara on Saturday,” said Betway country manager Adellah Nyaruhuma.

“We will open our third shop at Market Plaza in Kampala on Monday,” she added. Unlike many other industry players, Betway punters have been able to access their gaming services online even during the eight-month lockdown.
