Betway Set To Honour Centurion Justin Kimono

When Betway Kobs defeated Shell Rimula Rimula Rhinos at Legends late last year, winger Justin Kimono was playing his 100th game for the club. The number 14 marked his century with a try that ensured Kobs registered a bonus point win to cement their place at the summit of the log.

The try was his 73rd for the only club he has featured for since graduating from Namilyango College where his career started.  He has since scored his 74th in Kobs 18-23 loss to Heathens over the weekend.  In a gesture of appreciation from the team's main sponsors Betway, the winger will be handed a plaque before the team's encounter with Makerere Impis at Legends Friday evening.

The accolade comes with the player running onto the pitch for his 102nd game. For a player who has had to endure surgeries on his knees before returning back to action, many rugby voices speak of him as a man who has done all it takes to be at the highest level possible.  Robert Sseguya, the assistant coach of the Rugby Cranes, played against Kimono and also coached him at national team level.

He speaks of the speed merchant in high regard and reveals that Kimono's career is a good example for the upcoming players. "He is just getting back steadily and is yet to be at his best. But, with his hard work you can expect that very soon," Sseguya revealed. Since his return from injury, Kimono has been in fine form for the Blue army despite struggling to his speed and agility back yet.

As a winger who thrives on his pace and agility, Kimono will take some time to get back to his level best. For former Rugby Cranes back Denis Etuket, Kimono's hard work and respect for the game is what has set him apart. "His 100 caps are exemplary. His success is down to his hard work and commitment. A true example is how he has battled against two knee surgeries," Etuket said of the pint sized player.

"He never gave up hope but instead worked very hard to return from injury and above all he respects the values of sports,"  The main focus for Kimono this year will be to get back to his best and challenge for a starting position on the Rugby Cranes team that will feature in this year's Rugby World Cup Qualifiers.  If his form in the league thus far is anything to go by then he will without doubt be on the team.
