Coaches are often sacrificed first when a team is underperforming. Betway Power have however taken the unusual step of overhauling their roster as they continue their quest for an elusive sixth National Basketball League title.
The process started with the release of several players led by long serving forward Joseph Ikong, one of two players left the other being Isaac Afidra from Betway Power’s last title winning team in 2011.
Some of the other who made their last appearances as Betway Power lost UCU in the playoff semifinals last season include Geoffrey Soro, Nasser Guddi, Philip Ameny, David Opolot and Libe Makala.
The five-time champions also been quick to make major additions including the experienced Brian Waters who has played in America, Saudi Arabia, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Australia.
The guard is joined by Yesman Bushiri who was signed from JKL and the pair who are already training with the club at YMCA Court were quick to praise the organization at their new workstation.
"I'm loving everything about the team. The management seems to care a lot about the direction of the organization, building a strong team,” said Waters who also played for KCCA Panthers in 2018.
“My teammates are very competitive, have high goals and expectations, and I enjoy being around such guys. I expect to compete at the highest level, Championships, Zone 5 and beyond.”
“I just want to be a good teammate and have great chemistry with my teammates,” he added.
Others include the front court pair of Congolese-born Niwa Bazile Yan and Patrick Seduge acquired from the 2018 Lower League Div 1 Champions, Kampala University Eagles.
“I'm in a new team and I'm glad to be here. They're a serious team in terms of organization and vision. I'm all for what they conform to,” Bushiri who will again play alongside power forward Ivan Lumanyika, the other major addition from JKL.
On Wednesday they also announced the acquisition of young Congolese guard Lajoie Mubulanyi from PGB-Academy, Goma-Congo.
