Betway Power Keep Leaders In Their Sites

KIU Titans continue to top the National Basketball League log with a 7-1 record following their 77-53 win over Nkumba Marines on Sunday. UCU Canons, with a 6-3 record and who play Nkumba Marines later on Wednesday trail, having made a 6-3 start to the season and are level on 15 points with the Titans. But having earlier defeated JKL Dolphins 77-67, Betway Power kept in close pursuit of the leaders as they improved to 6-1.
2011 league MVP Isaac Afidra rolled back the years for the Arnold Lando coached side with 20 points as Betway Power inflicted a fifth defeat in eight outings for the newly promoted side. The veteran forward shot a combined six of 13 from the field to go with six rebounds. Michael Makiadi added 17 and nine rebounds in a game that also saw the returning Sunday Okot chip in with 13 points. Former Power forward Norman Blick replied with 11 points for JKJL while Libe Makala top scored with 15. Power led 23-15 after first quarter and got what would be the biggest lead of the night three minutes into the second period courtesy of Okot’s three-pointer that stretched the score at 34-17.

Sunday’s other games saw Dickson Asiku lead Startimes Falcons with 16 points as the six-time record league champions defeated UPDF 55-51 to pick only their second victory of the season. With a 2-5 record Falcons are however still bottom of the log with Nkumba and Sharing only faring better by virtue of having played one more game with identical 2-6 records to date.
