Betway Power favoured to end patchy form

The current National Basketball League playoff format ensures the top two teams avoid each other until the finals.

Securing those positions could prove key particularly for Betway Power as the season enters the midway point of the second round.

They have never beaten the Oilers in a playoff game since the latter were promoted six years ago with both teams now pushing for a sixth title.

Betway Power will consequently be seeking to finish among the top two seeds ahead of the playoffs to avoid an early date with their nemesis.

They have not been in good form lately and come into Saturday’s game against Charging Rhino seeking to end a sequence of two straight losses against KCCA and the Oilers.

Coach Arnold Lando has particularly been critical of the contributions of his role players in the two defeats and called for an attitude change.

A combination of poor shooting and good Oilers defense saw Betway Power score a paltry four points in the third quarter they lost 21-4 with the period haunting them to lose 57-65.

They will be heavy favourites this time to improve the 13-3 league best record thus far against opponents with the worst at 4-12.

Betway Power shooting guard Stephen Wundi has meanwhile been away in South Sudan since the death of his mother a fortnight ago.

The team will be back in action 24 hours later with another Sunday fixture against the unpredictable Ndejje Univeristy Angels who boast of being among the other two teams to defeat Power this season.

The Oilers are meanwhile also fancied against Sharing Youth despite going into the weekend with a number of absentees.

Sharing Youth on a 1-5 run at the moment, encounter an in form City Oilers team that has won seven on the bounce including a 68-63 first round win over today’s opponents.

The Oilers pair of Jonathan Egau and Tony Drileba flew out with the national basketball 3*3 team that is taking part in continental qualifiers in Madagascar this weekend.

Veteran forward Stephen Omony has meanwhile played the disappearing act over the past week.
