The five-time
National Basketball League champions
Betway Power marked a return to form with Sunday’s 85-71 victory over Ndejje University being their second straight win after a brief wobble.
With four games to go, Betway Power boast of the league’s best record at 15-5.
Coach Anrold “Mchuda” Lando as a result wants the team to use the remaining games to refocus just in time for the playoffs.
“We have a few players out with injuries, some out of form and others involved in various engagements,” he said before adding “But the season is coming to an end we should put ourselves in the best shape in time for the playoffs.”
That focus will be called into question on Friday evening when
Betway Power take on JKL Dolphins in the two games on card at the YMCA Court.
With several players out including Stephen Wundi (compassionate leave), Paul Odong, Phillip Ameny and Michale Kojo (injuries), Lando had called for a bigger contribution from his role players.
Francis Kasinde heeded that call on Sunday, leading the fight back with 18 points and Geoffrey Soro added 15 as Power avoided a regular season double-loss to Ndejje by overcoming a 44-39 half time deficit.
They will be wary of a JKL side with strong inside game including Ivan Lumanyika who played for Betway Power last season at the Zone V championship.
The centre leads with the most blocks in the league and averages eight rebounds, the third highest tally in the league.
The other Friday game includes clash of last season’s playoff finals between City Oilers and KIU Titans the other two teams expected to compete for this season’s title.
Betway Power will however have little time to rest with a Saturday fixture against a physical UPDF side awaits 24 hours later.
