Betway Kobs want strong finish in Sevens

After claiming their first win in this year's national sevens championship, Betway Kobs will look to defend their title by finishing strong this campaign.

The first three circuits saw Kobs miss out on defending the Kyadondo and Jinja Sevens legs.

Edmund Tumusiime's charges claimed their first 7s series win in Mbarara last weekend after defeating Mulago Rams 21-0 in a one sided final.

The win, coupled with Black Pirates' fourth place finish, left the defending champions only 5 points behind the table leaders.

And, that, according to head coach Tumusiime, has to be the starting point for Kobs to come back and reclaim the title.

"We needed to win and get going. We have now cut the gap and we want to maintain this," Tumusiime said after the circuit.

With three circuits left on the calendar, there's still lots of points to fight for and the title race is still wide open.
"The next circuits will be very important for us and we have to show our character if we are going to retain the cup," Tumusiime added.

Like his coach, James Ijongat believes the team has all it takes to fight and retain the cup they have dominated in the last three seasons.

"It's all about staying together and working hard. We have fallen short a couple of times but we have also tried to rectify all our problems," Ijongat revealed.

Kobs went to Mbarara without their World Cup bound Adrian Kasiito and Justin Kimono.

Jude Juuko, Cyrus Wathum and AlHajji Manano were also absent having travelled to Namibia for the University Rugby Sevens World Championships.

Having won all their group games, Kobs defeated Jinja Hippos in the quarters before going past Toyota Buffaloes 14-05 in the semis.

Tries from Ijongat, Ian Munyani and Terry Ochan ensured the Betway sponsored outfit left Western Uganda with maximum points.

Kobs' home ground, Legends Rugby Club, will host the next three legs of the series.
