Betway Kobs Visit Mbale As Uganda Cup Gets Underway

Last year, Buzz Pirates ended Betway Kobs’ hopes of winning a treble with a 27-22 win in the semifinals.
Baron Kasozi, Conrad Wanyama and Marvin Odongo were all on the score sheet as the 2007 champions sent Kobs packing at the penultimate stage. That, according to most of the players on the Kobs team, is now history and the chase for victory this season will be in full gear. Kobs, under the watchful eye of Ronnie Lutakome, will start their Uganda Cup campaign with a trip to Eastern Uganda from where they will clash with Mbale Elephants.

The Legends outfit, fresh from winning the National Sevens Championship, were tasked to start the season with a road trip to the East. Kobs is just one of the top flight clubs that will be on the road in the first round with lesser sides handed the home advantage. Kobs will be without the services of full back Joseph Aredo who recently joined Kenyan side Harlequins. Defending champions Hima Cement Heathens will also start theirs in the East with a trip to Jinja to face Walukuba.

Heathens defeated Buzz Pirates in last year's final and will have a shot at defending their championship. Warriors will make the longest trip as they visit Gulu Elephants in the North. The rugby Uganda Cup tournament kicks-off on Saturday October 14 with eight games on card.
