Betway Kobs Tackle Pirates In First Round Finale

Friday fixture:

Pirates vs. Betway Kobs

4.30pm, Legends.

Betway Kobs will end the first round at the summit of the Rugby premiership log by avoiding defeat against Buzz Pirates on Friday.

Having lost just one game this first round, Ronnie Lutakome's troops top the table with 35 points, 2 ahead of second placed Pirates.

The clash, anticipated to play a huge part in deciding where the title will end up at the end of the season, presents Betway Kobs the chance to arrest their poor run of form against the Sea Robbers.

Betway Kobs

The Betway sponsored side have lost two of the last three games to Pirates and will want to avenge their Uganda Cup semi-final defeat.

After falling 23-18 to defending champions Hima Cement Heathens, Betway Kobs responded with a 90-0 demolishing of Makerere Impis to stay atop the table.

Pirates' 102-8 win over Jinja Hippos, the biggest win of the season thus far, sent a message to those still in doubt of the Sea Robbers title ambitions.

Bobby Musinguzi's charges are yet to lose a game on pitch with their only loss coming from the boardroom when points were awarded to Plascon Mongers.

The Sea Robbers used the Jinja Hippos tie to rest some of their key players and also give playing time to those who haven't had enough time on the pitch this season.

Kobs' Justin Kimono's two tries against Impis had put him level with Baron Kasozi on 8 tries for the season before the latter's two against Hippos to increase his tally to 10.

Kobs have maintained a familiar back line so far this season with Davis Kyewalabye and James Ijongat pairing well in the half back positions while Justin Kimono, Alhajji Manano and Adrian Kasiito have also formed a formidable back three.

Collins Kimbowa, Derrick Tukwasibwe, veteran Victor Wadiya and Brian Asaba have all put in big shifts in the forwards department.

For Pirates, the half back pairing of Conrad Wanyama and Ivan Magomu has been solid in the last two years.

Top scorer Baron Kasozi, Timothy Kisiga and Ivan Massa have all been in fine form this season.
Whatever way you look at it, Friday's clash will have a big stake in deciding the destination of this year's title.
