Betway Kobs still top despite loss to Pirates

Betway Kobs may have lost 38-05 to Black Pirates in the Coronation 7s finals on Saturday but their grip at the top of the log remains firm.

With three circuits left on the calendar, Kobs still hold a 3-point advantage over their challengers.

Now on 104 points, Kobs still top the log while Pirates are second with 101 points.

Hima Cement Heathens are third 76 while Toyota Buffaloes (72) are followed by Jinja Hippos (63).

Kobs' Sevens captain Edgar Sseruwagi is confident the loss to Pirates will be the wake up call the side need in the title run.

"Sometimes it's good to lose so that you regroup and get everything right," Sseruwagi said after the loss on Saturday.

Kobs went into the Coronation Sevens without the services of Pius Ogena, Ian Munyani and Adrian Kasito.

The trio has been an integral part of the team throughout the season but Sseruwagi believes the team should always be able to do without individuals.

"We can't rely on individuals. As a team we are good enough and that's how we got to the final. We still had enough in the tank to take us an extra mile."

With the national 15s side in action against Zimbabwe this weekend, 7s action will take a break.

The Mbale 7s will be next on the menu on August 3rd before a trip to Jinja and the finale at Legends in the Kitaka 7s.
