Betway Kobs shop ahead of league kickoff

The last piece of rugby action in Uganda happened a year ago before COVID-19 disabled sports.

The league season had to be abandoned with five games to play and Heathens were declared winners.

Betway Kobs, who were second on the log before the pandemic hit, are now out to fight for the league title.

The intentions have been made clear by the team's activity in the transfer market.

Arthur Mpande, Byron Oketayot, Mike Otto and Saul Kivumbi have been added to strengthen the team's forwards department.

Brian Ochan, Robert Masendi and James Odongo will bolster the backline as Kobs look for that league title that has eluded them in the last five years.

While the last five years have seen the Blue Army lift two Uganda Cups and four national Sevens titles, the league fight has been characterized by late collapses.

This season will be quite unique and with little room for error as it involves one off clashes with no return legs.

The big clashes that usually determine the swing are now must-wins for any team with title hopes.

Kobs' season gets underway on Saturday with a clash with Legends side Rhinos and failing to collect maximum points early on can easily spell disaster.

On paper, Kobs possess all the weapons required for the fight but rugby is not played on paper.

Coaches Davis Kiwalabye and Fred Mudoola will have 10 weeks to race toward the finish line.
