Betway Kobs hungry to win as Sevens season kicks off

After slipping up in the final stages of the league and surrendering the title to rivals Hima Cement Heathens, Betway Kobs have now turned their attention to the national sevens championship that kicks off Saturday at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

Joseph Aredo, who was a key figure in Kobs' 15s season, believes the side is more than ready to fight for silverware.

“We fell short the other  season and now we have a chance of trying to do better,"  Aredo said at the launch of the circuits this week.

"Everyone in the team wants to win and we are going to assemble a stronger team. We have plenty of young kids who are eager to impress.” he added.

Kobs won the Mbarara Sevens and the last event held at Kyadondo under floodlights but Pirates had already done enough to clinch the overall title.

“We seek to have better attitude towards the sevens and we will prove that on Saturday. On behalf of my teammates, we are confident and want to return to winning ways.” the fullback emphasises.

Prior to Pirates sweeping all the titles last season, Kobs had won the Sevens title three years in a row.

Aredo, Adrian Kasito, Justin Kimono, Ian Munyani and Conrad Mukwaya have all been a big part of the Uganda Sevens team and will shift that experience to the side.

Toyota Buffaloes will host the first of the eight circuits to be held this year.

Masaka and Mbale are this year’s new hosts as Uganda Rugby Union bids to reach more ground across the country.
