Betway Kobs missed the opportunity to push closer to the league title after a 30-14 loss to Black Pirates over the weekend.

Kobs started the game on the back foot and trailed early on following Desire Ayera's try.

Conrad Wanyama's conversion and Ivan Magomu's penalty stretched the game to 10-00 in favour of the visitors.

The hosts had a first half to forget and went into the half time break trailing 27-00.

The second half started with Pirates scoring the first points as Conrad Wanyama converted a penalty to extend their lead to 30-00.

Second half substitute Pius Ogena scored delivered Kobs' first try of the game midway through the second half.

Joseph Aredo also crossed the white line late in the game as Fred Mudoola's charges attempted a futile come back.

Defeat for Kobs means they are now 3 points off the pace following Heathens' bonus-point win over Walukuba Barbarians.

With two games left on the card, Heathens lead the table with 71 points while Kobs are second on the log with 68 points.

Shell Rimula Rhinos and DusuPay Warriors are Kobs' last opponents of the campaign.
