Betway Kobs drown in Uganda Cup Glory

Uganda Cup final:

Pirates 14-21 Betway Kobs

Betway Kobs registered their first piece of silverware for the season after a 21-14 win over Black Pirates in the Uganda Cup final at Legends Saturday evening.

Kobs needed a late comeback masterminded by utility back Adrian Kasito to the Sea Robbers and win the cup for the first time since 2012. Pirates started stronger and hungrier to defend their Cup.

They led 06-00 early in the game as Joel Anguyo, who was returning to the team having missed the first three games, converted two penalties.

Already trailing by six in the game, Kobs started losing players to injury and Faragi Odugo was the first to limp off. He was replaced by veteran Robert Byabashaija.

Having struggled to kick in the semi-final clash with Heathens, Ivan Kirabo and James Ijongat continued to struggle from the corn in the final.

Kirabo could not connect on two occasions and when Pirates were penalized for illegal entry into the ruck, Kobs turned to James Ijongat.

He slotted in for Kobs' first points on the board before joining Odugo on the injury list.

Conrad Mukwaya also limped off. Joseph Aredo and Edgar Sseruwajji came on for the Blue Army. The two sides went into the halftime break with Kobs trailing 03-06.

The Sea Robbers started the second half just as they had started the first, more intensity and purpose. Anguyo split the posts to increase their lead to 09-03 early in the second stanza.

Musa Muwonge soon went over for Pirates to increase their lead. Head coach Fred Mudoola had to make a decision and he threw on the old guards.

Timothy Mudoola and Victor Wadia came on and stabilised the team's scrummaging. Kobs started dominating the scrums and Adnan Mutebi powered over the white chalk to cut the deficit. 14-08 Pirates led but were now in sight.

Kobs forced Pirates to play deep in their half and it paid off as they made light work of the Sea Robbers in every scrummage.

Adrian Kasito came to the party late on as he crossed the line and converted for Kobs' first lead (15-14) of the game. Kasiito would later add two penalties to send Kobs fans into wild celebrations.  He was also voted man of the match.
