Betway Kobs overcame DusuPay Warriors 28-03 on Saturday to keep pressure on table leaders Hima Cement Heathens.
Warriors proved a hard nut to crack early in the game and gave Kobs no room in their half.
Ivan Kirabo resorted to his boot when the Warriors defended their try line well. He missed the first attempt but found the target with the second for the game's first points.
Kobs kept probing and after a strong carry by Pius Ogena, Justin Kimono finished in spectacular fashion, Kirabo converted and the 2016 champions led 10-00.
Ogena didn't make it back to the game after suffering an ankle injury in the process of setting up Kimono.
Jude Juuko had the opportunity to stretch Kobs' lead before halftime but he dropped the ball at the try line.
Warriors' Joseph Oyet fluffed their only opportunity of the first half missing a penalty from close range.
The two sides went into the break with Kobs having the upper hand. Kobs started the second half on the back foot with Warriors pressing for a try.
Nelson Mandela cut Warriors' deficit by converting a penalty but Fred Mudoola's charges responded.
Josiah Ssempeke split the posts on two occasions to stretch the lead to 16-03 and there was no way back for Warriors.
When the Warriors' defence tightened, substitute James Ijongat launched a cross field kick which was well collected by Adrian Kasito for the second try.
Kobs were then awarded a penalty try after Ijongat was deemed to have been denied an obvious try scoring opportunity.
The win was enough for Kobs to stay second on the log, only two points behind pace setters Heathens.
Heathens also defeated Mulago Rams 39-03 at the Graveyard in Makerere. Third placed Pirates beat Toyota Buffaloes 30-00 at Kyadondo.
