Betway Kobs defeat Pirates to go second

Kobs 23-11 Pirates

Betway Kobs moved to second place on the national league table after a convincing 23-11 win over Black Pirates at Legends on Saturday.

The home side required a solid second half display to stamp their authority on the game and take the four points.

Pirates got the first points of the game after sustained possession in the first minutes of the game.

Prop Edgar Pajob went over for the visitors but Conrad Wanyama could not add the extras and the game was within reach for Kobs.

The Sea Robbers continued to put Kobs under pressure and could have extended the lead but Wanyama fluffed a penalty.

Davis Kyewalabye's charges got into the game with the back line getting to work.

Winger Daudi Semwami gathered from the wing and cut back inside deep in the Pirates half.

Ian Munyani crossed the chalk to level matters but Ivan Kirabo could not covert and the game stayed tied at 5-5.

Stephen Alul put in a penalty for the visitors to retake the lead but Kirabo, off his boot, ensured the two sides went into the halftime break level.

The second half was dominated by the hosts with most of the action in the Pirates half.

Alhaji Manano and Justin Kimono added two tries while Kirabo converted a penalty to seal the victory.

The victory was enough for Kobs to leapfrog Warriors to second place, now four points behind leaders Heathens.
