Betway Kobs defeat Mongers to edge closer to title

Mongers 12-66 Kobs

Seven games played. Seven games won. Betway Kobs are on course to the rugby league title with two games left.

Joseph Aredo was the man of the moment as the Legends outfit defeated Plascon Mongers 66-12 in Entebbe to maintain the top spot.

Aredo traveled with his kicking boots and was 100% off the tee to put in seven conversions and a penalty as Kobs cruised at the House of Pain.

The back, returning to the team for the first time since playing with the Uganda Sevens in Dubai, started at fly-half and scored the first points on the day from a penalty inside the first five minutes.

Brian Odongo, Byron Oketayot and Robert Aziku, Daudi Semwami, and Pius Ogena all crossed the white chalk in the first half.

Brian Kamanyire’s penalty gave the hosts their only points of the half and Kobs led 45-03 going into the halftime break.

The visitors got more points on board in the second half as Kamanyire’s boot started things off in the stanza.

Second-half tries from Conrad Mukwaya, Saul Kivumbi, and Trevor Maina completed the route for title-chasing Kobs.

Mongers have never been easy opponents especially in Entebbe and Kobs head coach Davis Kyewalabye must have expected a tougher challenge than what the hosts presented.

Kobs need to win their last two games of the season to win their first league title since 2016.

Makerere Impis and second-placed Black Pirates are the teams left for the Blue Army.
