Geoffrey Soro and
Phillip Ameny are set to feature in the National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs first round after domestic governing body Fuba extended the start of this year’s post-season.
There were initial concerns the front court pair would not feature having initially been suspended for 25 and 10 games respectively after an altercation with Saidi Amisi during the team’s game against Warriors.
But after
Betway Power appealed the decision, the players had the suspensions reduced with Soro’s ban reduced to a 30-day suspension after payment of the $150 fine.
Ameny on the other hand was supposed to be sidelined for 21 days but had his fine waived after the latter decision.
But with the club making an immediate payment and Fuba revealing this season’s playoffs do not start until September 20, the pair will now be available for selection by coaches Arnold Lando and Boniface Okello.
“We paid the fine immediately after getting feedback from our appeal,” Betway Power General Manager Phillip Kyomuhendo said of Fuba’s response after the club appealed the earlier suspensions.
Power won four of the five games after the duo’s suspension with Brian Sivachi and Libe Makala stepping up especially against the league’s bottom sides.
Makala dropped a game high 30 points and Sivachi added a season high 25 points in the 121-62 rout of Falcons.
Sivachi also added another game-high 18 points in the 84-75 win over Ndejje University with Makala contributing 15 to the cause en route to Power finishing as fifth seeds with a 15-7 record.
They consequently play JKL in the best of three playoff quarterfinal after the latter finished as fourth seeds.
