Betway donates to Baleke Boxing and Empowerment Group

Betway Uganda is one of the top supporters of sports in Uganda. Football, rugby, and basketball have been the biggest beneficiaries in the last few years.

Express FC, Betway Kobs, and Betway Power are all sponsored by the online gaming company. The support has now stretched to boxing and through Hellen Baleke.

On April 20, Betway donated four industrial Juki sewing machines to the Baleke Boxing and Empowerment Group to assist in growing its tailoring school.

The Group was founded by Baleke, a 33-year-old boxer who represented Uganda at the 2019 AIBA All Africa games in Morocco winning a bronze medal for her
country.

Baleke runs a tailoring school that now has 36 women. Her effort to support fellow women amidst the COVID-19 pandemic got the attention of the media and Betway went knocking on her door.

“Hellen Baleke is an inspiring example of what one dedicated woman can do to support her community,” Betway Uganda Country Manager, Adellah Agaba said.

Betway donated four industrial sewing machines to the group to make their work easier.

“Baleke’s efforts have largely come at her own expense up to this point and we felt that we needed to do our part to assist her.

"We hope that these sewing machines will be the first of many contributions to come as we call on businesses to follow in our footsteps," Agaba added.

Baleke was understandably excited and appreciated Betway's gesture.

"When I was told that people from Betway are coming to visit us, I thought it was a joke and I didn't take it seriously much as I kept thinking about it, even getting sleepless nights sometimes," Baleke said.

"We are grateful for this support because it boosts our business and motivates us to keep working hard and believing in God that people with good hearts still exist," she added.
