Betway donates food in Covid-19 fight

The coronavirus pandemic has hit nearly all sectors of life in several parts of the world.

With more than half of the human race grounded, public spots are empty, health systems are at a test and global oil prices have plunged.

In Uganda, several homesteads have been financially hit ever since President Yoweri Museveni announced first measures on March 18 in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.

Public gatherings and sports events have not happened since then and sportsmen have to wait until May 5.

In response to the fight, leading online gaming company Betway Uganda on Tuesday offered a donation of 3.3 tonnes of rice to the government’s Covid-19 National Task Force.

“Betway is committed to ensuring that the communities we work with are safe, have food and basic necessities to last them through the lockdown,” said Agaba Nyaruhuma.

“We care about sports development and the communities that support local teams especially those that we sponsor; Express FC, Betway Kobs and Betway Power. We urge everyone to stay safe and observe Ministry of Health guidelines as we fight this Pandemic.”

Of the package, 300kg of rice were handed over to the Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa).

“We thank Betway Uganda for the donation,” said Uspa president Patriq Kanyomozi upon receiving the donation.

“We await some more from our other partners and friends. The Executive will work out a distribution plan as soon as possible,” he added.
