Unai Emery, the Villarreal manager, reflected on their recent 4-2 defeat to Celta Vigo and feels the encounter could have been a great game because of how both teams lined up.

“It needs to be the footballers who take centre stage. VAR is here to help. The images are those they judge because they’re decisive moments in the match," Emery said.

"You feel frustration. You have to be cool because the decisions aren’t in our hands.

“It was an important match for both teams. The team was ready to get a good result against Celta who were in a good form.”

Lastly, Real Sociedad will be determined to consolidate their place in the top seven when they take on Atletico Madrid at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on May 12.

This will be the 47th meeting between the two teams across all competitions and Atletico have dominated this fixture.

Atletico have registered 21 wins compared to fifth-placed Sociedad's 17 victories, while eight matches ended in a stalemate.

The last match between the two teams ended in a 2-0 win in favour of Atletico in a La Liga game which was played at the Estadio de Anoeta on 22 December 2020.
