No Express rest as focus switches to Uganda Cup chase

The feat of winning the club’s first ever Cecafa Kagame Cup is one that you would have expected Express to celebrate long and hard.

This after the regional tournament was added to a seventh league title that was also achieved at the end of June.

But with the club having picked up valuable momentum following that Cecafa triumph, head coach Wasswa Bbosa is keen for it to continue ahead of what should be a gruelling season.

Consequently, there will be little rest as the Red Eagles instead turn focus on the Uganda Cup.

Bbosa expects his team to return to training on Thursday ahead of their semifinal clash against Bul.

The games which will be played on home and away basis are expected to be played between 19th – 31st August 2021 following draws made at the start of this month.

“We are going back to reorganize and prepare ourselves for an Uganda Cup semifinal game in the other trophy we want to win,” Bbosa stated upon the team’s arrival from Tanzania.

This was at a welcome function with club president Kiryowa Kiwanuka and State Minister for Sport Hamson Obua following their Cecafa triumph.

The Red Eagles defeated visiting Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 in the final of the regional competition that attracted eight teams.

The team is now assured of at least $55000 with that $30000 of that amount offered to the winners courtesy of Rwanda President Paul Kagame.

Domestic football governing body Fufa meanwhile also promised to award $25000 to the club for their exploits.

“We fought hard to see that the trophy returns to Uganda because KCCA were the previous winners and we are glad we achieved this,” added Bbosa.
