Express storm CECAFA final

CECAFA KAGAME CUP:
Express 2-1 KMKM

Express FC are 90 minutes away from winning the 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

The Ugandan side defeated KMKM FC 2-1 Tuesday evening in Dar el Salam, Tanzania to progress to the final and a perfect 90 minutes will see them bring the trophy home.

The Red Eagles had to win the hard way this time round after KMKM took the lead at the stroke of halftime with Abdullah Hamad’s free-kick deflecting off defender Arthur Kigundu to beat the keeper.

Midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba restored parity after the break with his third goal of the tournament to keep the Ugandan champions on course for the trophy.

The former KCCA midfielder put in a fantastic free-kick in the 56th minute.

The game seemed to be headed to extra time until the third minute of added time when Martin Kizza was brought down in the penalty area.

Eric Kambale stepped up and converted the resultant penalty to settle the contest and send the Wankulukuku outfit to their first final of the tournament since 1995.

Express, the only Ugandan side left in the tournament, after KCCA’s failure to make the semis, is still unbeaten and fancy their chances going into the final.

“It was hard for us because we had to come from behind but we stayed focused and managed to get the win,” Kizza said after the game.

“Hopefully we get our hands on the trophy,” he added.

“The focus is on winning the trophy now.” Wasswa Bbosa said at the end of the game.

Victory for Express in the final would be Uganda’s second in a row following KCCA’s triumph in Kigali, Rwanda when the last tournament was held in 2019.
