Uganda football league champions Express FC are one point away from reaching the semifinal following the completion of match-day two games in Group A at the Cecafa Kagame Cup.
The Red Eagles played out a 1-all draw with Nyasa Big Bullets while Tanzania’s Yanga Africans and Atlabara of South Sudan were involved in a scoreless stalemate.
The results left Express top of the group with four points following their earlier 1-0 win over Atlabara.
Big Bullets and Yanga are meanwhile locked on two points each with Atlabara lagging behind on one.
For Express, the result against Big Bullets showed familiar failings for the Wasswa Bbosa coached side who were again wasteful in front of goal.
“Today’s game was a bit different from our first game," Bbosa said after the Wednesday game.
"Our level of fitness was ok. We also got chances but we didn’t utilize them also our opponents today were comfortable on the ball."
"But we managed a point so I am hopeful by the time we play our next game we shall have recovered because we have two days of rest," he added.
His side started well, taking the lead on five minutes when Godfrey Lwesibawa stole possession to initiate a counterattack.
His cut back then found Muzamir Mutyaba who faked a shot sending Miracle Gabeya into the ground in a flash.
The Big Bullets defender was last seen heading south before Mutyaba scored with a firm, low drive inside the box.
After recess, Big Bullets stuck to their plan, possessing the ball more, and finally got the breakthrough in the 66th minute.
Murushid Juuko failed to defend Hassan Kajoke’s header which found an unmarked Chiukepo Msowoya who slotted home to make it 1-1.
Start striker Eric Kambale was kept quiet for large periods of the game but initiated a move before side-footing his effort he was tipped around the post by the Big Bullets goalkeeper.
