Top of the Table Tussle in English Premier League

It’s another bumper weekend of action in the English Premier League as six of the current top seven go head-to-head in an epic schedule that should surely sort out the men from the boys in the 2018/19 title race.

Early log leaders Liverpool head to Leicester in Saturday’s lunch-time fixture, before Chelsea and Bournemouth, both unbeaten so far this season, battle it out at Stamford Bridge. Sunday sees Watford and Tottenham each put their perfect record on the line in yet another London derby.

The Foxes will still be without star-striker Jamie Vardy, who has scored seven goals in his last five matches in the league against Liverpool, after his sending off against Wolves a fortnight ago. Kelechi Iheanacho, a scorer in Leicester’s 4-0 midweek win over Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, is expected to lead the line. The Reds ended a two-match losing run at the King Power Stadium with Golden Boot winner Mohammed Salah scoring in a 3-2 victory in September last season, before scoring twice in a 2-1 win at Anfield in December.

The Cherries will be in confident mood ahead of their trip to the capital after their best-ever start to a Premier League season has seen them return seven points from a possible nine with victories over Cardiff City and West Ham respectively before coming from two goals down to snatch a share of the spoils against Everton. Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea have won all three of their opening games but will have to be wary on Saturday, having lost two of their three top-flight encounters at home against Bournemouth, including a humbling 3-0 defeat last season. Calum Wilson, on the scoresheet night, has notched up two goals and one assist already this campaign.

Arguably the biggest surprise package so far this season has been Watford. Three wins from three, scoring seven goals along the way, the Hornets are flying high ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Vicarage Road. Spurs, only ahead of the London rivals on goal-difference, dispatched Manchester United most recently with Harry Kane adding to his maiden goal in August against Fulham with another at Old Trafford. Watford have not beaten Tottenham in a league meeting since May 1987, losing eight and draw four of the 12 matches since. Dele Alli has netted four times in his last four appearances against them and will be odds on to get on the scoresheet once more on Sunday.
