Heathens Win At Legends While Kobs Falter

Hima Cement Heathens got their first piece of silverware over the weekend after their 21-12 win over Toyota Buffaloes handed them the Henry Rujumba memorial tournament at Legends Rugby Grounds.

Having failed to make the finals in the first two legs of the Guinness National Sevens, the Kyadondo side erupted on Saturday, winning all their games en-route to the cup. Heathens had twice fallen to Buffaloes in the semifinals this season but avenged all that when it mattered most. Romano Ogwal, Joseph Oyet and Aaron Ofoyrwoth all crossed the line as Buffaloes fell in the final for the third time this season. Heathens showed intent from the start with Michael Wokorach and Romano Ogwal returning to boost the side.
Heathens ran over their opponents starting with a 38-0 over Makerere Impis and a 22-0 over Mutoni Warriors. They defeated Stallions 38-0 to complete their group games. The Kyadondo outfit overcame hosts Black Pirates 17-12 in the semifinal to storm the final and clinch the cup.

Kobs falter
A 12-22 loss to Buffaloes in the main cup semifinal highlighted the bad day in office for the table leaders. Playing without five of their starters, Kobs looked a shadow of the team that won the Kyadondo and Jinja sevens.
Joseph Aredo, Adrian Kasiito, James Ijongat, Ramathan Govule and Alhaji Manano were all summoned to the national sevens team and couldn’t feature at Legends. The Betway-sponsored side are still top of the log and go into the Gulu sevens this weekend looking to get back to winning ways.
Pirates dedicated their leg of the sevens championship to former player Henry Rujumba who collapsed while conducting a lecture at Kampala International University in 2015.
