Uganda Silverbacks set to face Egyptian side in friendly games

National Basketball team

The Uganda senior men National Basketball team, the Silverbacks, has been out of action since losing to Rwanda in the first round of the World Cup Qualifiers last year.

A 92-79 loss to the Zone 5 rivals ensured Uganda's road to the World Cup ended much earlier than expected.

The side will now be preparing for the AFROCAN tournament set to be hosted in Uganda in July.

In a bid to give the team some action prior to the big tournament, two build up games have been arranged with Egyptian Club Smouha.

FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi says the Egyptian outfit will be in the country to play the Silverbacks on Friday, May 17 and Sunday, May 19 at MTN arena in Lugogo.

Smouha are the 2019 Zone five runners up having fallen to Al Alhy 68-67 in Tanzania last year.

With the national league already underway,  head coach Mandy Juruni will have the opportunity of assessing the players to be used for the big tournament in June.

Betway Power players Joseph Ikong and Cyrus Kiviiri have been important pieces to the Silverbacks' set up and will be expected to make the cut.
