Uganda Cup defending champions Betway Kobs bounced back to defeat Plascon Mongers 19-8 and qualify for this Saturday’s final.
Kobs went down when Mongers scrumhalf Paul Angana gave the Entebbe side the lead early in the game. Fly half James Ijongat set up debutant Daudi Semwami for his first try in the Kobs’ black and blue.
Even when lock Robert Aziku was sent to the sin bin for a shoulder charge midway through the game, Kobs held their nerves to control the game.
Ivan Kirabo scored three penalties on the day while winger Conrad Mukwaya crossed the white line late in the game to send the Legends outfit to the final.
Saturday's final will see eternal rivals Hima Cement Heathens and Kobs go head to head for the first piece of silverware of the season.
Heathens defeated last year’s losing finalists Black Pirates 14-3 in the first semi-final. Flyhalf Robert Masendi scored an early penalty for Heathens and they held on for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Fullback Joseph Oyet added a drop goal for Heathens after sustained possession in the second half. Ivan Magomu nailed a penalty to cut the deficit to 6-3 and get Pirates on the score sheet and back in the game.
Fullback Joseph Oyet collected from his own half and sailed via the wing to dot down in the corner and put the game to bed for the men in green. Substitute Chris Lubanga put the icing on the cake with a penalty at the death and send Heathens to the final.
Semi final results
Heathens 14-3 Pirates
Kobs 19-8 Mongers
