5 EPL youngsters to keep an eye on

As the 2019/20 English Premier League is set to get underway, we take a look at five youngster that could make an impact this season.

Rhian Brewster

After winning the Golden Boot at the 2017 under-17 World Cup, Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster suffered a series of injuries that kept him out of the majority of the 2018/19 season. Now fully fit, Brewster will be looking to make up for lost time as the 2019/20 English Premier League season gets started. He will however, have to fight for a spot up front with Liverpool’s star-studded front trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino being unlikely to step aside for the youngster.

Kyle Walker-Peters

After having a mixed bag last season that saw him let in Dembele when Spurs took on Barcelona and create three of Spurs’ five goals when the side drubbed Bournemouth on Boxing Day, Kyle Walker-Peters returns for the 2019/20 season with more experience under his belt. The 22-year-old right-back has shown promise under Pochettino but is yet to live up to it. Could the new season be his time to shine? Spurs fans sure hope it will be.

Mason Mount

Chelsea is in a tough spot going into the 2019/20 EPL season with a transfer ban preventing the club from strengthening their roster and a rookie manager in former Chelsea player and club legend Frank Lampard. However, it may be a blessing in disguise as the club will be relying on academy talent like Mason Mount.

The creative midfielder spent his 2018/19 season on loan at Derby County under the very coach that has taken the helm at Chelsea. Mount managed 9 goals and 4 assists in his 38 games with the Championship club and will be looking to prove himself in the big leagues.

Phil Foden

Although only having got the nod for a handful of starts for Manchester City last season, City boss Pep Guardiola has touted the 19-year-old Phil Foden as the most talented player he’s ever seen. When you consider that Guardiola has worked with the likes of Messi, Iniesta and Robben, his vote of confidence is no small accomplishment. It is still unclear what role Foden will have for City in the upcoming EPL season but with the recent praise from Guardiola, it’s likely he’ll get more playing time than he did last season.

Mason Greenwood

The second Mason on our list, Mason Greenwood appears to be receiving universal praise from everyone involved at Manchester United. Teammate Marcus Rashford is even quoted as saying that the 17-year-old had “frightening talent”. With questions already being raised about new permanent boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the clubs poor 2018/29 finish, it will be up to young talent like Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Greenwood to prove United’s detractors wrong.
