10 breakout players of the 2019/20 EPL season

The 2019/20 English Premier League campaign has seen the emergence of an unprecedented number of gifted youngsters.
 
We take a look at the 10 breakout players of the current season. 
 

10. Harvey Barnes - Leicester City

 
Matches: 27
Goals: 6
 
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been a revelation at Leicester City having displayed his ability to score and create goals.
 
Blessed with pace and dribbling skills, Barnes has hit the back of the net six times and registered six assists in the Premier League.
 
Barnes scooped the Premier League Goal of the Month for August 2019 for his superb winner against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
 

9. Todd Cantwell - Norwich City

The attacking midfielder has established himself as one of Norwich City's key players with his ability to score goals from midfield.
 
Boasting technical ability and impressive work ethic, Cantwell has shown maturity in this debut Premier League season having netted six goals and created two.
 
The 22-year-old player's exploits have not gone unnoticed as European champions Liverpool FC are reportedly monitoring his progress.
 
“He was always the most gifted, but needed more work mentally than the others," Darren Huckerby, who coached Cantwell in Norwich’s youth system, told The Athletic.
 
"He would admit it himself he could get intimidated by other players. And it’s great to see where he is now, because five years ago you might have said it would be touch and go."
 

8. Bukayo Saka - Arsenal

Assists: 10
 
The 18-year-old defender-cum-midfielder has been a revelation in his debut season in the Premier League for Arsenal.
 
Saka, who can operate as a left-back and left-winger, has remarkably provided 10 assists across all competitions for the Gunners in the current campaign.
 
The former Premier League champions are reportedly keen to extend the highly-rated teenager's contract which is set to expire at the end of next season.
 

7. Mason Mount - Chelsea

Goals: 6
 
The attacking midfielder has quickly established himself as a key player for Chelsea under manager Frank Lampard this season.
 
Blessed with an eye for goals, Mount has found the back of the net six times and created four, and his performances have helped Chelsea maintain their spot in the top-four.
 
The 21-year-old player's exploits have earned him national team call-ups and he has since played six games for England, and scored once.

6. Dominic Calvert-Lewin - Everton

The 23-year-old marksman is enjoying his breakthrough season in the Premier League at Everton and he is now the club's first-choice striker.
 
Clever in the box and sharp, Calvert-Lewin is in the race for this season's Golden Boot award having netted 13 goals. He has also registered one assist.
 
Calvert-Lewin, who recently signed a new Everton deal as a reward for his performances, is expected to be included in England's senior national team squad soon.
 

5. Emiliano Buendia - Norwich City

The Argentine starlet has established himself as one of the most creative players in the Premier League having impressed at Norwich City.
 
Mainly an attacking midfielder, Buendia can also play as a winger and has registered seven assists for the Canaries thus far.
 
Buendia has played for Spain and Argentina youth national teams, and is expected to decide his international allegiance soon.
 

4. Fikayo Tomori - Chelsea

The 22-year-old defender is one of the youngsters who has flourished under Chelsea manager Frank Lampard this season.
 
Mainly playing as a centre-back, Tomori can also play as a right-back and has produced impressive displays in defence for the Blues.
 
Tomori, who scored against Wolverhampton Wanderers, can represent both Canada and England, and he is expected to decide his international allegiance soon.
 

3. Jack Grealish - Aston Villa

The English playmaker is enjoying his breakthrough season in the Premier League as Aston Villa's captain.
 
An intelligent midfielder with an eye for a defence-splitting pass, Grealish has scored seven goals and created six, and is key to Villa's hopes of surviving relegation.
 
The 24-year-old player is said to be on the radar of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, inlcuding Manchester United and Liverpool FC.
 

2. David James - Manchester United

The speedy winger arrived at Manchester United from Swansea City as a low key signing and hit the ground running at the former Premier League champions.
 
Known for his pace and skill, James has caught the eye with his ability to create goals having registered six assists and hit the back of the net three times in the Premier League.
 
The 22-year-old player's exploits for the Red Devils have seen him become a key player in the Welsh national team.

He’s been a joy to work with and I didn’t give him the last penalty, I think he wanted it and that’s always a good sign.
 

1. Tammy Abraham - Chelsea

The 22-year-old marksman has quickly established himself as Chelsea's first-choice striker after being handed a chance to impress by Frank Lampard.
 
Known for his scoring ability in the English Championship, Abraham has netted 13 goals in 25 Premier League matches for the Blues - recording three assists in the process.
 
Abraham has been touted as a future England first-choice striker having netted a goal in two appearances for the Three Lions last year.
