Africa Gold Cup

Kenya vs. Uganda

(Saturday 3pm, Nairobi)

The Uganda Rugby Cranes and Kenya Simbas will face off in the Rugby Africa Gold Cup, also the second leg of the annual Elgon Cup.

The East African neighbours and bitter rivals Kenya and Uganda meet in Nairobi on Saturday with the home side looking to seal the Elgon Cup.

Having won the first leg in Kampala 34-16, the Simbas have the advantage in the Elgon Cup.

This will also be the Simbas third Gold Cup fixture on the trot and Uganda's second.

Uganda started the continental campaign in a 55-06 loss at the hands of Namibia in Windhoek while Kenya have won two in a row.

A 28-24 win in Morocco two weeks ago was followed up with a 45-36 victory over the Zimbabwe Sables last weekend.

Uganda will be looking to arrest their recent poor run of form with a first win in Nairobi since 2013.

The Cranes camp received a huge boost early in the week when some seasoned campaigners returned to the side for the clash.

Michael Wokorach, Philip Wokorach, Martial Tchumkam, Ronald Musajjagulanyago and Marvin Odong are all back to the side for their first piece of action this year.

There is also the return of Ivan Magomu after the fly-half missed the trip to Namibia.

When the two sides met in Nairobi last year, the home side needed a late penalty try to escape a scare from a resurgent Cranes side.

This will also be Uganda's last game on the road with the remaining three games against Tunisia, Morocco and Zimbabwe all in Kampala.
